This is your brain. This is my brain.
I didn't really believe in "pregnancy brain." I figured it must just be stress or fatigue. No way hormones can make swiss cheese out of an otherwise able mind.
I have come around and these are the facts:
exhibit 1) last month
Lizzy: "Do you get to have recess in highschool?"
Ariana: "I am afraid not. They don't have..." (blank, all blank, all words gone) "...those things that children play on with swings and slides and stuff."
Lizzy: "A playground?"
Ariana: "Yeah, playgrounds. Highschools don't have playgrounds."
Lizzy looked at me incredulously, only slightly less dissappointed in high school that she was now in me.
Other words that have slipped my mind:
Bronchi
Tortilla
Dresser
exhibit 2) last Wednesday morning
Derick: "Wasn't it Enrichment meeting last night?"
Ariana: "Aw crap!"
Blah, Blah, Blah. The conversation moves to the tasks of the day.
In the middle of my to do list...
Derick: "Don't you have a doctor's appointment at 1:30?"
Ariana: "Aw crap!"
Other appointments that have slipped my mind:
A mandatory work meeting
A birthday
exhibit 3) yesterday
noon:
Ariana: "What should we have with the pot roast?"
Derick: "I don't care."
Ariana: "I could make some biscuits."
Derick: " That sounds good, but they are a lot of work. We still have those refrigerated ones. They probably need used."
dinner:
Derick: "Where are the biscuits?"
Ariana: "Still in the refrigerator."

So what your saying is that your pregnancy is going well...nothing out the ordinary.
yeah! i remember forgetting "chicken" one time but now i forget so much i can't even remember the times i forgot.:)
as for the hormones, i was driving Eli to scouts the other night, when he said
"Mom, that car isn't even that close to us."
i realized i had been doing a DAD and yelling at the other drivers, which is not characteristically me. This led to the realization that everyone had annoyed me that day, and HMMMM maybe it wasn't them. maybe i need to pause til the hormones swing again.
oh, and i wish i could say the memory returns when the child is born, but i don't remember if that is so.
love you.
Oh my. I stupidly thought pregnant women were exaggerating their aches, pains, moods, and memory quirks.
And then I became pregnant. Sleeplessness, acid reflux, memory loss, and more body parts swelling than just my belly.
The good news is the memory loss will last for a few months *after* the baby's birth. I saw a program on public television explaining memory loss was due to increased blood flow to support the baby. Swelling in the brain = memory loss.
Nora is five months old this week and I'm still grasping for words. At least my belly isn't swollen anymore. ;)
Ariana, Joey and I are just sitting here and I'm trying to let him get to know you a little...you're already one of his favorite people because of the good advice you gave me early in our relationship. He's pretty neat and I love him a lot AND I love you, too! I'm so glad you're okay. One of these days you just might get a nice little announcement in the mail from us... :)
Love, Erin
Lilon says she has forgotten everything. Lilon once asked me to check the air pressure as we were driving along. Then when I stopped at the air compressor she asked why I had stopped. She can totally appreciate the Swiss cheese brain.
